JOHN SCHMITZ

District Manager

John has been the Alpena-Montmorency District Manager since September 2024.  John has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University.  His work experience over the past 25+ years has included developing environmental education programs for school age children as well as managing city parks and recreation programs in Iowa and Nebraska.  For all general conservation related questions, contact John at 989-356-3596 X 101 or john.schmitz@macd.org.

Kaylie has been employed at the district since February 2023 as the former MAEAP technician. Prior to her district employment, she served as Harrisville Township Clerk and worked to deliver children’s education programs for the U.S. Forest Service. With experience in administrative work, a background in agriculture, and growing up on a local crop farm, Kaylie takes a special interest in conservation. Forester

Greg has been the Forestry Assistance Program (FAP) Forester since 2019. Greg has a Bachelor of Science (Zoology), a Master of Science (Biology) from Northern Michigan University, and a Ph.D. (Forest Science) from Michigan Technological University. Greg was also a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana. Over the last 20+ years, Greg has conducted forest planning, applied research, management, and inventory and monitoring on public and private lands in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
